Gal Gadot, renowned for her role as “Wonder Woman,” recently received the Hollywood Icon Award from the Women’s Guild Cedars-Sinai at the Snow Ball gala in Beverly Hills. During the moving ceremony, Gadot shared a poignant account of how doctors and medical staff at Cedars-Sinai saved her and her baby after she suffered a ‘massive brain clot’ while eight months pregnant. Her story underscored the importance of listening to one’s body and the lifesaving work of healthcare professionals.
A Harrowing Diagnosis
At eight months pregnant, Gadot experienced an intense headache that disrupted her life. This health scare pushed her to undergo an MRI on February 5, 2024, at her mother’s insistence. The scan revealed a cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT), a severe condition that required immediate attention. Recollecting the moment, Gadot said, “Before we even got back home, my phone rang, and my doctor said, ‘You need to come to the hospital right now. It’s serious. You have a massive brain clot.’” The diagnosis brought fears of mortality and concerns about her unborn child’s well-being.
A Miraculous Intervention
Within hours of the diagnosis, Gadot underwent a life-saving procedure. Doctors successfully delivered her daughter, Ori, within three hours, and the very next morning, the medical team performed the procedure that saved Gadot’s life. Awakening from the ordeal, the actress realized she had received two profound gifts: her newborn daughter and a second chance at life. “Cedars-Sinai, you gave me that chance,” she expressed gratefully during her acceptance speech.
Honoring Cedars-Sinai’s Legacy
As she accepted her award from Dr. Shlee Song, Gadot reflected on the hospital’s rich history. She acknowledged its foundation in 1918 by the Jewish community in Los Angeles, a response to discrimination faced by Jewish patients and doctors. “To stand here tonight more than a century later, being recognized as an Israeli, as a Jewish woman, especially in a world that sometimes feels very divided and filled with hate, it means the world to me,” she remarked, emphasizing the institution’s enduring commitment to inclusivity and healing.
A Message of Advocacy and Resilience
Gadot’s experience serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of self-advocacy in health matters. She stressed the critical need to heed one’s body and instincts, stating, “If your body whispers that something is wrong, listen. If your heart says, ‘This doesn’t feel right,’ trust it.” Her message resonated with many, highlighting that advocating for oneself is an act of love, not weakness.
Through sharing her journey, Gadot not only honored the life-saving work of the Cedars-Sinai team but also inspired others to prioritize their health and advocacy. Her courageous narrative is a testament to the strength found in vulnerability and the enduring impact of compassionate care.
