From Page to Screen
A Son adapts Alejandro Palomas’ novel Un Hijo, an award-winning story translated into over 20 languages. The film marks the live-action debut of writer-producer-director Nacho la Casa, who is known for 2016’s animated feature Ozzy. Co-written by Juan R. Apolo, the narrative introduces us to María, a school psychologist trying to uncover the mystery behind Guille, an alarmingly happy eight-year-old with a potentially troubling secret.

The film stars Macarena García, known for her roles in La Mesías and House on Fire, alongside Hugo Silva from Movistar Plus+’s hit series Marbella. A Strong Support Network
A Son is a collaborative effort from production companies Capitán Araña and Guion Alto, along with Veleta Films AIE. It receives backing from major entities such as RTVE, Movistar+, and Andalusian state TV, with additional support from the Andalusian Regional Government and European funding programs.
With Filmax leading the charge for its international sales, A Son has positioned itself as a must-watch at the Cairo Film Festival. As the film’s premiere approaches, the anticipation continues to grow for what promises to be a moving cinematic experience.
