The Elevator Boys, a popular German content creator group turned boy band, have unveiled the trailer for their highly anticipated feature film debut, “Back to the 90s,” set to premiere on August 21.

Plot Overview

This German-language film on Prime Video tells the story of five best friends: Matteo (Julien Brown), Jonas (Tim Schäcker), Chris (Luis Freitag), Ben (Jacob Rott), and Oliver (Bene Schulz). As they strive to achieve their dream of becoming a boy band, their plans take an unexpected turn when one member expresses a desire to abandon their dream entirely. The stakes rise when the group is mysteriously transported back to 1995 through an elevator, where their adventure really begins.

Trailer Highlights

The newly released trailer showcases the band reveling in the nostalgia of the mid-90s, engaging in parties, navigating vintage Apple computers, and searching for romance as they experience their time-travel escapade.

Cast and Creative Team

Joining the Elevator Boys on screen are Felicitas Woll, Anja Pichler, Luise Aschenbrenner, Sidney Fahlisch, Helena von Have, and Derya Akyol. The film’s title track, “1995,” was penned by renowned songwriter and Take That frontman Gary Barlow.

“Back to the 90s” is produced by W&B Television, a part of Leonine Studios and the Mediawan Group, in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios Germany for Prime Video. Directing the film is Facundo Scalerandi, with a screenplay and concept developed by Juliana Lima Dehne. The production team includes Johanna Bergel, Benjamin Benedict, and Quirin Berg as producers, and Ralf Zimmermann as the executive producer. The creative crew further encompasses director of photography Borris Kehl, costume designer Kaya Kürten, production designer Cora Pratz, and makeup artist Kim Deguara.

Since launching in 2021 with viral elevator videos, the Elevator Boys have garnered an impressive following of 48 million across social media platforms. Their debut EP, “Scared to Love,” was released through their own label in 2024. One of their popular covers, “Jingle Bell Rock,” has amassed over 25 million streams.

Viral Fame

A notable moment in their rise to fame includes a viral video where the Elevator Boys cut a cake resembling supermodel Heidi Klum’s head at her Halloween party, which was shared by Variety and viewed nearly 11 million times.
