Dave Coulier Faces Battle Against Second Cancer Diagnosis

Dave Coulier has recently been diagnosed with a second type of cancer, just months after completing treatment for Stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma. This unexpected turn of events has prompted Coulier to share his journey, emphasizing the importance of early detection. In an interview with the TODAY show, he revealed the circumstances that led to this new diagnosis, and he is determined to tackle this challenge with the same spirit he brought to his earlier battle with cancer.

The New Diagnosis

In his interview, Coulier shared that “a couple of months ago, I had a PET scan, and something flared on the scan.” He expressed his shock when his doctor indicated there was an issue at the base of his tongue. Further tests confirmed the diagnosis of P16-positive oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma. This form of cancer, affecting the tongue, is reportedly unrelated to his prior non-Hodgkin lymphoma, leaving Coulier astonished: “They said it’s totally unrelated to my non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. This is a new cancer. … I said, ‘Are you kidding me?’” Fortunately, early detection has allowed for a promising treatment plan.

Hope and Treatment

On a positive note, Coulier shared that the cancer was detected early, and “it’s very treatable.” He mentioned a hopeful statistic that it carries a 90% curability rate. As he approaches the end of his treatment regimen, he stated, “The doctor said the prognosis is good, but we’re going to start radiation immediately.” His proactive approach reflects a commitment to not only his own health but also raising awareness about the importance of regular check-ups.

Support from Friends and Family

Coulier has received tremendous support from his castmates from *Full House*, who have rallied around him during his health struggles. Earlier in the year, he celebrated the completion of his treatment for non-Hodgkin lymphoma with his former co-stars. “We’re a family,” he remarked about their connection through text messages and video calls. “John [Stamos] FaceTimes me like every day. We’re very close. I love them all so dearly.” The camaraderie among these actors has clearly provided Coulier with comfort and encouragement in challenging times.

Advocacy and Awareness

Since revealing his diagnoses, Coulier has embraced the role of an advocate for cancer awareness, particularly focusing on testing and early detection. Reflecting on his journey, he observed, “The silver lining here is that I had cancer, which helped me detect my other cancer. It seems crazy to be making that statement, but it’s true.” His story serves as a powerful reminder of the critical role early detection plays in successful treatment outcomes.

As Dave Coulier faces yet another battle with cancer, he continues to inspire others with his resilience and commitment to spreading awareness. His journey highlights the profound impact of support networks and the importance of vigilant health monitoring.
