Buffalo 8 Secures Global Rights to Pakistani Thriller 'Jujji'

A groundbreaking development in global cinema, the Pakistani crime thriller “Jujji” has been acquired by Buffalo 8 for worldwide distribution. Directed by Habib Shahzad and scripted by Ahmad Umar Ayaz, this film promises to captivate audiences with its gripping narrative and intricate exploration of morality. With the unveiling of its trailer, “Jujji” sets the stage for a unique blend of South Asian storytelling and universal crime thriller elements.

A Neo-Noir Crime Thriller

Buffalo 8 has secured the global distribution rights to the neo-noir film “Jujji,” produced by BHM Films in collaboration with Yūgen Studios and Lollipop. The film is set in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, and follows detectives navigating the dangerous path of tracking a cunning serial killer. Portraying the killer is Muhammad Arsalan, while Mustafa Rizvi and Anjum Habibi take on the roles of SI Naveed and Constable Arshad. As the investigation deepens, these officers are led into a maze of personal and moral dilemmas, blurring the lines between justice and revenge.

Director’s Vision and International Recognition

Director Habib Shahzad describes “Jujji” not merely as a film but as a daring statement that validates the global resonance of Pakistani cinema. “We wanted to capture the essence of Rawalpindi while making it universally human,” Shahzad stated, emphasizing the film’s emotional depth and universal appeal. Over two years in the making, “Jujji” began as an independent project aiming to bring Rawalpindi’s stories to the world stage. Its success is reflected in the accolades it received, winning top honors at the Gandhara Independent Film Festival 2024 and the Punjab Police Film Festival 2024, as well as being featured at the Divvy Film Festival 2024.

Significance of Buffalo 8’s Acquisition

Nikki Stier Justice, head of distribution at Buffalo 8, highlighted the significance of acquiring “Jujji.” She remarked that from the initial screening, the film emerged as a remarkable, genre-defying piece, merging authentic South Asian tales with the broad allure of crime cinema. “It’s the kind of film that challenges conventions while signaling the exciting global evolution of independent filmmaking,” she explained, praising the film’s bold narrative and innovative approach.
