A new original series focusing on the intricacies of Indian freedom fighter Bhagat Singh is currently in development at Collective Studios’ Historyverse. This project, crafted in collaboration with Hathiramani Commercial Ventures, marks the producing debut of entrepreneur Manish Hathiramani.
Exploring the Man Behind the Myth
Instead of revisiting well-known episodes of Singh’s life, the series aims to delve deeper into Singh’s early years, highlighting his childhood, intellectual growth, and the significant social and political influences that shaped his beliefs during early 20th-century India. By tracking the evolution of Singh’s ideas, the show aspires to capture the revolutionary spirit that continues to inspire generations.
Insights from the Producers
Sudeep Lahiri, head of channels and distribution at Collective Media Network, shared insights about the project, stating, “There are some figures in our history whose stories we think we know completely. Bhagat Singh is one of them. But behind the icon was a young man whose ideas, influences and experiences shaped the person he would become. That is the story we are interested in exploring.” Lahiri further expressed excitement about Hathiramani’s involvement, noting their shared commitment to uncovering new perspectives in narratives that have long been told.
Hathiramani also expressed his fascination with Singh’s life, stating, “Bhagat Singh is a figure whose life has always fascinated me, but what interests me most is the person before the legend. We know the revolutionary, the freedom fighter and the icon; this series gives us an opportunity to understand the many facets of Bhagat Singh’s life and the journey that shaped him.” He concluded by expressing his delight in collaborating with Historyverse to bring a fresh viewpoint on Singh’s legacy to audiences.

Bhagat Singh has been the subject of multiple cinematic interpretations in India, with notable titles such as “Shaheed” (1965), “Shaheed-E-Azam” (2002), “23rd March 1931: Shaheed” (2002), “The Legend of Bhagat Singh” (2002), and “Rang De Basanti” (2006). This upcoming project adds to the expanding slate at Historyverse, which also includes series based on Indian mythology and history, featuring figures like Shivaji and Swami Samarth.
