Asher White Drops Full-Album Cover of Jessica Pratt’s Debut
Asher White has elevated her admiration for Jessica Pratt by releasing a full-album cover of the singer-songwriter’s acclaimed 2012 self-titled debut. This fresh interpretation has garnered praise from Pratt, who expressed her surprise and appreciation for White’s creative approach. In a press release, Pratt remarked, “White’s curiously inventive renditions took me by surprise. A broad sweep stylistically and production-wise. Not just homage, but a record in its own right.” Following the album’s release, White also announced an upcoming tour, making this an exciting time for fans of both artists.
Discovering Inspiration
Asher White stumbled upon Jessica Pratt’s debut album shortly before her 21st birthday and quickly became enamored with its melodies. “At some point, it became one of those records I’d listened to so many times that I would find myself unconsciously singing phantom harmonies alongside it or hearing arrangements that didn’t exist,” White explained. This deep connection motivated her to reinterpret each track. “Eventually, the specter of these imagined arrangements became substantive enough that I decided it would be a fun exercise to try and learn the whole record to actualize my fantasies,” she added.
A Distinct Spin on Beloved Tracks
While the original songs were all penned by Jessica Pratt, White infuses her unique style into each track on the cover album. She showcases her musical versatility by playing over a dozen instruments, including electric and acoustic guitars, banjo, bass, drums, and more. Notably, she collaborates with Bee Clark on vocals for “Casper” and Lila Lifton, who contributes violin to “Midnight Wheels.” This new album follows White’s previously released 2025 work, 8 Tips for Full Catastrophe Living, marking a significant evolution in her artistic journey.
