Actress Anna Faris has recently revealed the complexities of discussing religion with her 14-year-old son, Jack, whom she shares with ex-husband Chris Pratt. As the conversation around faith becomes increasingly relevant in their lives, Faris is determined to keep an open dialogue.
Parenting Through Faith and Discussion
Since separating from Pratt in 2017, Faris has found herself navigating the nuances of religion with Jack, who has expressed a desire for his mother to embrace Christianity. “Jack is religious. I didn’t grow up with religion. He’s asked me to accept Jesus Christ [as my savior],” Faris shared during her appearance on Chelsea Handler’s Dear Chelsea podcast.
Long Conversations About Belief
Faris articulated her willingness to explore these topics, stating, “And I told him I would do anything for him, including this, but it’s going to take a whole lot of long conversations.” She appreciates Jack’s emotional stability, describing him as “solid as a tugboat emotionally” and able to handle challenging discussions. This reassurance allows her to engage deeply with him on these complex issues.
Recognizing Hypocrisy in Faith
During their conversations, Faris prompts Jack to think critically about religious views and practices. “I’m like, ‘Do you think it’s a luxury that you get to be pro-life? Do you think that’s kind of a luxury?’ And he’s like, ‘Maybe,’” she explained. She also notes that Jack can recognize when certain religious figures may be misusing their influence, commenting, “Oh, mega pastors are the worst.” In this way, Faris feels encouraged that her son is actively examining religion and questioning its inconsistencies.
The Shared Background of Jack’s Health
Jack’s early life experiences have significantly impacted both his and Pratt’s outlook on faith. Born nine weeks premature, he suffered a severe cerebral hemorrhage, a traumatic event that deeply influenced Pratt’s relationship with his beliefs. In a December 2025 essay for Maria Shriver’s Sunday Paper, Pratt wrote about finding himself “back on my knees, pleading with God for a miracle” during Jack’s time in the NICU. Such profound moments have anchored Pratt’s commitment to sharing his faith.
Continuing to Evolve
While Faris and Pratt have taken distinctly different paths post-divorce—Pratt married Katherine Schwarzenegger and Faris wed cinematographer Michael Barrett in 2021—they both strive to be loving parents. Faris expresses gratitude for the ongoing dialogue with Jack, as he navigates the complexities of faith in today’s world.
Anna Faris’ Current Projects
In addition to her parenting journey, Faris is currently promoting her new comedy film, Spa Weekend, which features a cast including Leslie Mann, Isla Fisher, and Michelle Buteau. The film explores the chaos that ensues when a group of friends embarks on what was meant to be a relaxing getaway.
As Faris continues to foster discussions about religion and personal beliefs with her son, she reflects on the importance of guiding Jack to think critically and openly about faith in his own life.
