Alexandar Skarsgård has firmly established himself as a style icon on the red carpet, particularly with his recent appearances promoting the fantasy romance film “Wicker.” As the film gears up for its release, Skarsgård’s bold fashion choices have certainly caught the eyes of fans and critics alike.
Bold Fashion Choices at the Premiere
At the recent London premiere of “Wicker,” Skarsgård turned heads in a striking metallic gold suit designed by Saint Laurent. Enhancing his avant-garde look, he completed the outfit with clear plastic lace-up shoes. Reflecting on his unusual footwear, Skarsgård shared, “They were surprisingly comfortable, and I was worried that they would steam up in five minutes, but that actually didn’t happen.” He humorously noted that friends and family have commented on his feet, affectionately referring to them as “my little piglets.”
Whimsical Attire in Los Angeles
The actor continued to showcase his unique flair at the Los Angeles premiere, where he wore a vibrant multicolored skirt paired with a whimsical black shirt that featured the face of his co-star, Olivia Colman, from the London-based fashion house Chopova Lowena. “We’ve been on a press tour for a couple of weeks, and now we’re in L.A., and it’s our final big premiere before the movie opens on Friday,” Skarsgård explained. “I wanted to wear something special for this lovely lady over here, Olivia, whom I adore.” He commented on the comfort of the skirt, saying, “It’s very comfortable. It’s quite a hot night, and it’s light and breezy. I’m enjoying it.”
A Surprise Gray Wig and Lively Promotions
Earlier that same day, Skarsgård made a bold statement at a SAG-AFTRA screening and Q&A by donning a long gray wig, inspired by Colman’s beautiful hair during promotional events. “I got a little jealous because everyone is complimenting Olivia on her beautiful hair and beautiful hair color,” he joked. “As a narcissistic actor, I need a little bit of attention, so I threw on a beautiful gray wig to match Olivia today.”
Co-Stars Shower Praise
His co-star Elizabeth Debicki couldn’t help but praise Skarsgård’s daring fashion sense, stating, “He can do no wrong. I love the man. What can I say? I’m biased.”
About “Wicker” and Its Unique Visuals
In “Wicker,” Colman plays an outcast in a medieval town who finds herself in love with a man made of wicker, portrayed by Skarsgård. Debicki’s character navigates feelings of jealousy as the town admires the unconventional romance. Remarkably, Skarsgård’s wicker look is the creation of the Wētā Workshop in New Zealand, with contributions from lead makeup effects artist Sarah Rubano, prosthetic designer Joe Dunckley, and lead weaver Jasmin van Lith. Colman expressed her awe upon seeing Skarsgård in costume for the first time: “We’d seen backward and forwards from Weta Workshop in New Zealand images for about 18 months, and so suddenly he puts it on, and we were all going, ‘Oh God, I hope it works.’ And he came out of the makeup trailer and went, ‘Oh God, it’s beautiful.’”
Release Information
“Wicker” is set for limited release starting October 23, followed by a wider release on October 30.
