Action Icons Shine: Chris O’Hara Receives Maverick Stunt Honor

The Round Top Film Festival is set to shine a spotlight on the unsung heroes of the film industry: stunt performers. This year, the festival honors Chris O’Hara with the Maverick Stunt Award, recognizing his exceptional contributions to action cinema. Known for his work on high-profile movies, O’Hara exemplifies the skill and bravery required in the world of stunts, as the festival continues its mission to celebrate those who bring action scenes to life.

Honoring Stunt Performers

The Round Top Film Festival, launched in November 2024 by Shanna and Skylar Schanen, aims to honor stunt performers from the outset. While most film festivals focus on directors and actors, Round Top celebrates those who risk everything for thrilling cinematic moments. Held in Round Top, Texas, a small town famous for its antique shows, the festival acknowledges the critical role of stunt professionals in the film industry.

The Maverick Stunt Award

For its inaugural event, the Maverick Stunt Award went to R.J. Casey, renowned for his daring stunts in blockbusters like “Inception” and “Dunkirk.” Continuing this tradition, the festival now recognizes Chris O’Hara, a veteran with 25 years in the industry. O’Hara’s work includes doubling for stars like Matt Damon and Bradley Cooper, as well as contributing to major films such as “The Bourne Supremacy” and “Jurassic World.” His dedication and skill in stunt coordination have made him a celebrated figure in action cinema.

Events and Discussions

Scheduled for November 6-9, the festival features engaging panel discussions, including “From Combat to Camera” and “From the Jump: Film and TV Stunt Designers in Conversation.” These sessions offer industry insights and honor the creativity behind daring sequences. O’Hara’s work on “The Fall Guy,” an action-comedy about a stuntman directed by David Leitch, will be highlighted as a significant contribution to the genre.

Additionally, the festival will present a Lifetime Achievement Award to Vic Armstrong, a legend known for doubling iconic characters and directing stunts in numerous James Bond films. This celebration of talent underscores the festival’s commitment to showcasing the artistry behind action sequences.

Continued Recognition

As the Round Top Film Festival grows, its commitment to honoring stunt performers remains strong. By celebrating figures like Chris O’Hara, the festival ensures that the contributions of these skilled professionals receive the recognition they deserve.
