In a captivating performance on The Tonight Show, Steve Martin and Alison Brown took center stage to perform their instrumental bluegrass track, “Let’s Get Out of Here.” This dynamic duo, along with a talented ensemble of musicians, showcased their impeccable skills on the banjo, bringing the lively composition to life for the audience. Their performance not only highlighted the track’s vibrant energy but also marked a significant moment in their collaborative journey.

Safe, Sensible and Sane: A Collaborative Triumph

The instrumental piece “Let’s Get Out of Here” serves as the concluding track of Martin and Brown’s recently released album, Safe, Sensible and Sane. Debuting earlier this month, this album is their first collaborative effort. It features contributions from renowned artists such as Jackson Browne, Vince Gill, the Indigo Girls, Tim O’Brien, Jason Mraz, and Della Mae. Recorded at Compass Sound Studio in Nashville, the album embodies a live-tracked authenticity that complements its bluegrass roots.

The Artistic Process

On the creative synergy with Alison Brown, Steve Martin remarked, “With the banjo, there are so many styles you can work with, but Alison and I both have an ear for its more melodic, melancholy aspect.” The album represents a blending of their musical histories, where improvisation and collaboration took center stage. Brown added, “We didn’t start off by saying, ‘Let’s make an album.’ We were just having a good time writing songs, and at some point, we realized we’d written enough to gather them all together and put a bow on it.” This organic process brought an element of joy and spontaneity to their work, which they hope listeners will experience.

Steve Martin’s Dual Talents

While working on the album, Steve Martin also balanced filming his popular TV series, Only Murders in the Building, whose fifth season premiered on Sept. 9. The series, featuring co-stars like Selena Gomez and Martin Short, continues to captivate audiences. Its sixth season is set to film in London, expanding its global allure. Celebrating this milestone, Gomez shared her enthusiasm on Instagram, emphasizing the joy they hope to bring to viewers.

The release of “Let’s Get Out of Here” on The Tonight Show not only underscores Martin and Brown’s musical excellence but also reflects their shared artistic journey. Through their combined efforts on Safe, Sensible and Sane, they invite listeners into a world rich with emotion, melody, and a touch of whimsy.
