Amidst the glitz and glamor of Hollywood, the Environmental Media Association (EMA) Awards are aiming to make eco-consciousness both engaging and entertaining. The annual event, which celebrates sustainable achievements in entertainment, is set to feature a star-studded lineup including Lance Bass, Malin Akerman, and Rainn Wilson. With a focus on fun, the gala hopes to draw attention to critical environmental issues through the power of pop culture.
A Green Evening With Lance Bass
Back in July, EMA CEO Debbie Levin joined forces with NSYNC’s Lance Bass for dinner at Matu in Beverly Hills, planning the upcoming EMA Awards Gala. Since 2009, Bass has been an active board member of the nonprofit, dedicated to promoting environmental progress within the entertainment industry. This year, he takes on the role of executive producer for the gala, scheduled for October 11 at Radford Studio Center in Studio City. The event is billed as a platform to unite environmental leaders and industry changemakers.
Embracing Pop Culture
Over martinis, Levin, Bass, and Levin’s daughter, Alexx, agreed that amidst the global challenges, this year’s EMA Awards should embrace fun through pop culture. The conversation turned to reality TV, a topic Alexx and Bass found engaging. Levin, unfamiliar with it, found herself the outsider in this chat. However, the conversation sparked an idea: Ariana Madix, the popular host of “Love Island USA,” should co-host the EMA Awards. Bass concurred, adding his friend Harry Jowsey to the mix.
Star-Studded Lineup
Madix and Jowsey were a natural fit, bringing a youthful vibe to the event. Adding to the evening’s allure, Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men will perform, with EMA board members like Malin Akerman and Madelaine Petsch making appearances. Celebrities such as Kathy Griffin, Selma Blair, and Jenna Dewan will also join, enhancing the glamorous atmosphere. “The thing about really going heavy on pop culture is that we are reaching a demographic that we don’t always reach when we’re too serious,” Levin notes.
Highlights of the Evening
The EMA Awards will feature a traditional green carpet, a celebration of eco-friendly fashion. Guests will indulge in a vegan dinner and witness honors given to films like “Jurassic World: Rebirth” and “Wicked.” There’s a new category for student films and a special accolade for the Los Angeles Fire Department. Rainn Wilson will receive the EMA’s Ongoing Commitment Award, marking the event’s dedication to sustainability.
Held for the second time at Radford Studios, the event’s new home arose from Levin’s connection with Jeremy Hariton, COO of the MBS Group. Their collaboration signifies a commitment to sustainability, with facilities engaged in the EMA’s Green Seal program, which emphasizes environmentally friendly practices in energy, waste management, and transportation.
As the EMA Awards gear up for another memorable gathering, the fusion of pop culture and environmental advocacy promises to make a significant impact, inspiring a broader audience to join the green movement.
