Sophie Turner Describes Awkward On-Screen Kiss with Kit Harington

In the world of film and television, reunions of beloved co-stars often bring excitement and nostalgia. However, for Sophie Turner and Kit Harington, their latest collaboration in the gothic horror film “The Dreadful” took an unexpected turn. In a surprising revelation, Turner described the experience of kissing her “Game of Thrones” co-star as “vile,” highlighting the unique challenges actors face when stepping into new roles. This public confession, made on her recent “Late Night With Seth Meyers” appearance, delves into the behind-the-scenes dynamics that come with shifting from iconic sibling roles to romantic leads.

Sophie Turner confessed that sharing a kiss with Kit Harington in “The Dreadful” was a “vile” experience. During her appearance on “Late Night With Seth Meyers” on August 14, Turner explained that she is both producing and starring in the film. She recommended Harington to writer-director Natasha Kermani as the perfect choice for the male lead.

Having portrayed siblings Sansa Stark and Jon Snow in the acclaimed series “Game of Thrones,” Turner and Harington’s on-screen sibling bond extended throughout all eight seasons. Although the show ended in 2019, their brother-sister connection has evidently endured beyond the series.

“So, I sent the script to Kit, and he kind of sent me a message back going like, ‘Yeah, I’d love to, but this is going to be really funny weird, Soph,’” Turner recounted during the show. “And I was like, ‘What is he talking about?’ Then I was reading [the script] and it’s like, ‘Kiss, kiss, sex, kiss, sex…’ And then I’m like, ‘Oh, shoot, that’s my brother.’”

Despite the initial unease, Turner shared that both she and Harington were captivated by “The Dreadful” script and felt compelled to take on the roles. “We put it out of our minds, and then we get on set and it’s the first kissing scene, and we are both retching. Like, really, it is vile. It was the worst,” she admitted.

Set against a 15th-century backdrop, “The Dreadful” follows Anne (Turner) and her mother-in-law Morwen living on society’s fringes. The return of a mysterious man from their past sets off events that upend Anne’s life. The film also features Marcia Gay Harden, Laurence O’Fuarain, and Jonathan Howard, though its release date remains unannounced.
