MoreThan Films has announced the acquisition of “Meteorite,” the debut feature from Colombian filmmaker Sebastián Múnera. This highly anticipated film is set to make its world premiere at the Venice Critics’ Week, which runs from September 2 to 12.
A Journey Through a Troubled Landscape
“Meteorite” tells the story of Tefa and Nia, two residents of a small town near the Magdalena River as they care for Nia’s young nephew. In a moment of desperation, Nia convinces Tefa to help her smuggle cellphones into the local prison. Their quest leads them through an extravagant amusement park, artfully situated on the grounds of a former drug lord’s estate.
Whispers of the Past
As Tefa and Nia navigate this surreal environment filled with water slides and concrete dinosaurs, unsettling memories begin to resurface in the oppressive summer heat. The film’s synopsis suggests that Tefa’s path is inevitably guided toward a profound confrontation, set against a backdrop where violence looms just beneath the surface.

About the Filmmaker
Sebastián Múnera is not only a filmmaker but also a distinguished Colombian visual artist. His artistic journey has taken him to the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, thanks to an invitation from the Centre Georges Pompidou. His past works have garnered selection at various prestigious festivals, including IFFR Rotterdam, DOK Leipzig, and FICCI Cartagena. Among his accolades are the Humberto Solás Cine en Construcción Award and the International Symposium on Auteur Cinema Altiplano Incuba Award.
A Promising Debut
“Meteorite” represents Múnera’s first venture into feature-length fiction and has already received acclaim at work-in-progress programs in both Málaga and Cartagena. The film is produced by a collaborative team that includes Sebastian Martinez, Mauricio S. Burckhardt (Haus Kino), Valeria Mejia, Sebastián Múnera (Entre Acto), among others.
