Sean Combs has filed a countersuit against Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones, claiming that Jones illegally “stole” personal documentary footage and sold it to Netflix for a docuseries produced by 50 Cent. This legal action was detailed in a comprehensive complaint submitted on Tuesday, which was subsequently reviewed by Rolling Stone.

In his lawsuit, Combs asserts that Jones made various defamatory remarks in the four-part docuseries, Sean Combs: The Reckoning, which aired in December 2025 and has recently garnered three Emmy nominations. An attorney representing Jones did not respond to requests for comment from Rolling Stone.

The origins of this legal conflict trace back to February 2024, when Jones initially sued Combs for $30 million, shortly after Combs’ former girlfriend, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, filed a significant sexual abuse and sex trafficking lawsuit against him. That case was resolved just 24 hours later for $20 million.
Jones’ Allegations
According to Jones, he was engaged by Combs in the fall of 2022 as a music producer for the upcoming album The Love Album: Off the Grid. During this period, he claims to have witnessed disturbing activities including a shooting, widespread drug use, and the presence of firearms in at least one of Combs’ residences. Jones has also alleged that he was drugged and sexually harassed by Combs while working on the project, reiterating these claims in the documentary. Combs has firmly rejected all of Jones’ allegations.
Combs’ Defense and Claims of Theft
Combs’ legal team has labeled Jones’ statements as part of a “campaign for revenge” aimed at profiting from Combs’ notoriety. In relation to the disputed footage, Combs’ attorneys argue that he was in the midst of creating his own documentary about his illustrious career when Jones began working with him. They claim that while on a vacation in St. Barts in December 2022, Jones accessed the videographer’s workstation and “secretly stole” computer drives containing footage intended for Combs’ documentary.
Legal Demands and Outcome Expectations
Combs’ legal filings indicate that this footage was later utilized in the Netflix docuseries, asserting that Jones had no authority to use or share the content with third parties, as it was illegally obtained. Combs, currently serving a 50-month sentence on prostitution charges stemming from a summer 2025 trial, is pursuing damages to be established at trial. He is also demanding that Jones return the footage and destroy any copies he may possess.
