Scott Eastwood Reveals Clint's Shocking Decision on Costner

Scott Eastwood recently shared an intriguing anecdote about his father, the legendary Clint Eastwood, during an appearance on the “Armchair Expert” podcast. The 40-year-old actor highlighted the respect his father commands on set, noting that Clint never raises his voice while working. This decorum was distinctly illustrated in a memorable incident involving actor Kevin Costner during the filming of “A Perfect World.”

A Clash of Ego on Set

In his recounting, Scott recalled, “Kevin Costner was sort of going through maybe the Kevin Costner rise to fame and maybe got a big ego.” He explained that, at one point, Costner refused to leave his trailer, a situation that left Clint with little choice. Scott paraphrased his father’s response: “Well send him home then,” despite Costner’s scheduled participation in the scene that day.

Clint’s Firm Approach

Scott elaborated on how the crew approached Costner: “They just went to Kevin and said, ‘Hey, you’re going to go home for the day.’ He responded, ‘What do you mean I’m in the scene?’ To which they replied, ‘Well, I guess you’re not anymore. Clint changed that.’” After being sent home, Costner reportedly showed up the next day ready to work.

Reflecting on Childhood in Hollywood

Scott also touched on how growing up with such a prominent father shaped his perspective on the film industry and work ethic. He acknowledged that witnessing various behaviors in Hollywood as a child provided him with a unique lens into acceptable conduct on set. “I saw some behavior in this business that is shocking,” he remarked, noting his father’s protective approach, which helped shield him and his siblings from the downsides of early fame.

Life Lessons from Clint Eastwood

Scott has often expressed gratitude for his father’s efforts to maintain a sense of normalcy in their lives. He reflected, “Kudos to my dad, because he did a really good job of protecting us… We didn’t live in LA, we lived in Carmel. It was a very…as normal as it could be,” emphasizing that Clint wanted his children to have typical childhood experiences.

As the conversation wrapped up, Scott’s tribute to his father revealed not just a fascinating story from the set of “A Perfect World,” but also insights into the values imparted by Clint Eastwood, which continue to resonate through Scott’s own career.
