Prince William and Kate Middleton Choose Normalcy Over Formality at New Home
In a significant yet relatable move, Prince William and Kate Middleton are opting for normalcy over formality as they prepare to transition to their new residence. The couple, along with their three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—will be relocating to Forest Lodge, a historic property previously referred to as Holly Grove. This decision highlights their commitment to raising their children in a grounded environment, even within the royal sphere.
A Move to Forest Lodge
Kensington Palace has confirmed that the Wales family is set to move to the Grade II listed Forest Lodge later this year. Currently residing at Adelaide Cottage, a cozy four-bedroom home in Windsor Park since August 2022, the family is seeking additional space as their children grow and their royal duties expand. Forest Lodge offers an eight-bedroom estate, allowing the family to stretch out while remaining close to their established community.
Choosing a No-Fuss Lifestyle
Despite the home’s impressive size and a value estimated at $21 million, the couple remains committed to their hands-on parenting approach. Notably, they have decided against hiring live-in staff. Royal biographer Robert Hardman shed light on this choice in his book “New King, New Court,” noting that the couple did not look to expand their staff at Adelaide Cottage, partly due to space constraints. Hardman confirmed, “Reports that the Prince was hiring a valet were knocked back.”
While they do have a small support team that includes their longstanding nanny Teresa Turrion Borrallo, a gardener, and a housekeeper, Prince William and Kate Middleton opt for a low-key lifestyle. A source spoke to the Daily Mail about their home life, stating, “I think it would surprise people to see how ordinary things are at home. The children help with laying the table, clearing their plates when they’ve finished eating, and helping with tidying up. There’s no preferential treatment.”
Maintaining Normalcy Amid Royal Duties
For the future King, instilling a sense of normalcy is essential. “As far as we are concerned within our family unit, we are a normal family,” William shared in 2016. “I love my children in the same way any father does, and I hope George loves me the same way any son does his father.” This sentiment encapsulates the Wales family’s approach to parenting.
Royal expert Katie Nicholl supports this philosophy, stating that the children are encouraged to complete household chores for pocket money. “They absolutely do menial tasks,” Nicholl shared, emphasizing the family’s desire for a normal, happy, and ordinary home life. At Adelaide Cottage, this goal is genuinely being realized.
Exploring Forest Lodge
Forest Lodge is not just spacious; it comes with delightful features such as three stables, two semi-detached guest houses, a tennis court, and expansive gardens. The home, steeped in history with its construction dating back 328 years, was once rented for £15,000 per month before undergoing renovations to accommodate the Wales family.
Even as they prepare for this new chapter, the couple’s dedication to a down-to-earth lifestyle remains steadfast. Author Valentine Low noted in “Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown” that staff members are also encouraged to dress in a casual manner while working with the family. “The kids run around the office, and he [William] does not want it to be stuffy. If we have important meetings or are going to Buckingham Palace, then, of course, we [dress up],” the source told The Sun.
