Netflix is once again joining forces with the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), emphasizing its commitment to diverse storytelling and cinematic innovation. The collaboration promises a range of exciting events and showcases, highlighted by the premiere of “Left-Handed Girl” and a sequel to “Raat Akeli Hai”. This partnership, running from November 20-28 in Goa, underscores Netflix’s dedication to championing emerging voices in Indian entertainment.
Collaboration Details and Initiatives
Netflix’s renewed partnership with IFFI includes a co-hosting role in the festival’s market component. This involves the Knowledge Series, the Tech Pavilion, and the WAVES Film Bazaar, alongside a story pitching initiative aimed at nurturing new talent in the industry. Through these programs, Netflix seeks to provide a platform for emerging filmmakers and writers, offering them opportunities to directly engage with industry leaders and potentially secure development deals.
Spotlight on Emerging Talent
As a co-host of the WAVES Film Bazaar, Netflix is spearheading a three-day pitching forum. This event will see selected filmmakers and writers pitch their projects to Netflix’s content team, creating a direct pathway for the discovery and development of new Indian storytellers. This initiative not only empowers emerging talent but also fosters an environment where fresh voices can thrive.
Festival Premieres and Showcases
The International Showcase section of the festival will feature some of Netflix’s high-profile premieres, starting with “Left-Handed Girl,” Taiwan’s Oscar submission directed by Shih-Ching Tsou and co-written with Sean Baker. The festival will also feature “Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders,” a Hindi-language film continuing the thrilling narrative of Inspector Jatil Yadav, portrayed by Nawazuddin Siddiqui, alongside Radhika Apte.
On November 28, during the festival’s closing ceremony, attendees will get an exclusive preview of “Maamla Legal Hai” Season 2, a Hindi-language series starring Ravi Kishen.
Technological Innovations and Accessibility
This year’s Tech Pavilion at the festival will focus on Netflix’s accessibility features, providing hands-on demonstrations for delegates. A dedicated booth throughout the event will also highlight Netflix’s parental controls and Kids and Family content, supporting informed and safe viewing experiences for younger audiences.
With a rich lineup of premieres and innovative initiatives, Netflix’s partnership with the International Film Festival of India promises to be a thrilling celebration of global and Indian cinema, setting the stage for the next wave of storytelling talent.
