Marc Maron Dreams of Obama on His Last 'WTF' Episode

Marc Maron has become a fixture in the entertainment industry, known for his insightful podcast, intriguing roles, and candid opinions. Recently, he discussed his dream guest for the final episode of “WTF With Marc Maron,” shared his thoughts on Stephen Colbert’s show cancellation, and delved into his role in “The Bad Guys 2.” This article provides a closer look at Maron’s insights and career highlights.

The Dream Guest: Barack Obama

Marc Maron revealed that his ideal guest for the last episode of “WTF With Marc Maron” would be former President Barack Obama. Obama had previously appeared on the podcast in June 2015, and Maron believes a return visit could provide a sense of hope and reflection. “If we could get President Obama back, that would be good to give us a little hope or some sense of reflection,” Maron shared during the premiere of his latest film, “The Bad Guys 2,” in Los Angeles.

Reflecting on “WTF” and the Late Show

This year, Maron announced the end of his podcast, which began in 2009 and is set to wrap up in the fall after over 1,600 episodes. During an episode featuring John Mulaney, Maron opened up about his decision to end the show. Alongside this announcement, he also shared his reaction to CBS canceling “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” citing bad timing and suggesting political influences might be at play. “The timing was bad,” he said. “It seems that there was a political element, at least in appearance.”

The Changing Landscape of Entertainment

Maron expressed uncertainty about the future of traditional television amidst the rise of digital platforms. “Show business is shrinking,” he noted, highlighting the entrepreneurial spirit of creators building new pathways. However, Maron hopes for a continued focus on original productions, noting, “You have to hope for the best, or everything just turns to garbage.”

A Return to the Animated World in “The Bad Guys 2”

In “The Bad Guys 2,” Maron returns as Mr. Snake, alongside an ensemble cast that includes Sam Rockwell and Natasha Lyonne. The sequel’s plot involves the Bad Guys planning a heist with the help of the Bad Girls, introducing a new dynamic to the story. Maron spoke fondly of working with Lyonne, who voices a raven named Doom. Their on-screen chemistry was bolstered by an off-screen friendship, creating “a safe space” for their characters’ interactions.

Maron highlighted the importance of the romantic subplot between Mr. Snake and Doom, admitting it almost got lost in the film’s complexity. “Originally, the romance got lost in the chaos of the ending,” he explained, but after feedback, the filmmakers ensured it was properly concluded.

The film features a diverse cast including Craig Robinson, Anthony Ramos, and Awkwafina, each contributing to the film’s vibrant storytelling. “The Bad Guys 2” has become a significant part of Maron’s varied career, showcasing his versatility as an actor alongside his podcasting legacy.
