Kacey Musgraves is embracing her Texan roots with the upcoming release of Middle of Nowhere Vol. 2: Tex Mex Tapes, a deluxe edition of her 2026 album Middle of Nowhere. She continues to celebrate her beloved home state and its rich borderland heritage with the project, slated to drop on January 15, 2027. To give fans a taste of what’s to come, Musgraves has unveiled two new tracks: “Weekend in Texas” and “Mi Tesoro.”
New Tracks That Reflect Texas Spirit
The track “Weekend in Texas” is a lively celebration of returning home, set to ranchera-inspired cowbells and pedal steel guitar. In this upbeat song, Musgraves humorously bids farewell to an ego-driven ex while reveling in the charm of Texas. On the other hand, her rendition of the classic norteño song “Mi Tesoro,” originally performed by the revered Cornelio Reyna, showcases a more introspective side of the artist.
Celebrating the Influence of Mexican Culture
Earlier in the month, Musgraves released her first complete original Spanish-language song with the rerecording of “Uncertain, TX” featuring the Texan band Intocable. The deluxe album will also include two additional Spanish-language tracks, further highlighting the deep Mexican influence on Texas country music, a theme that resonates throughout her work.
“Weekend in Texas” and “Mi Tesoro” are just glimpses into the 16-track collection of Middle of Nowhere Vol. 2: Tex Mex Tapes. As Musgraves navigates this in-between chapter of her life, she delves into themes of solitude and contentment, providing fans with a reflective listening experience.
Upcoming Tour and Release Details
The announcement of the deluxe album comes as Musgraves prepares to conclude the U.S. leg of her Middle of Nowhere tour on October 27. Following this, she will take her tour to Australia and the U.K. in January for a limited number of dates.
