Dave Coulier, beloved for his role in “Full House,” recently shared uplifting news about his health journey: his tongue cancer is now in remission. This positive update comes nearly a year after he successfully battled Stage 3 non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. The actor credits early detection and the unwavering support of friends like John Stamos for helping him heal. Coulier’s story not only highlights his resilience but also underscores the importance of friendship and early medical intervention.
The Road to Remission
Dave Coulier appeared on “Good Morning America” to celebrate World Cancer Day and announce that his tongue cancer is in remission. Just a year earlier, he had defeated Stage 3 non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, with both cancers being unrelated. He recounted to Robin Roberts how a routine checkup for lymphoma led to the discovery of his tongue cancer. A PET scan revealed abnormalities, prompting doctors to perform a robotic surgery to biopsy his tongue. “Had I not gone in for that PET scan and gotten early detection … it saved my life,” Coulier explained.
The treatment process was intense, involving rigorous radiation therapy. Coulier described the struggle, saying, “It can steal parts of your life away from you psychologically, emotionally, and certainly physically.” Determined to keep cancer from taking over his life, he maintained a positive attitude, keeping loved ones close and using humor as a healing tool.
Support from a Brother
Throughout his ordeal, Dave Coulier found strength in the support of his longtime friend and “Full House” co-star, John Stamos. Stamos traveled to Michigan to lift Coulier’s spirits, proving the depth of their friendship. “He’s my brother,” Coulier said. Stamos’ lighthearted antics, including wearing a bald cap to make Coulier laugh, provided much-needed joy. Even when Stamos caught COVID-19, the two friends faced it together with humor and camaraderie, communicating via walkie-talkies like school kids.
Advocating for Healthier Choices
In recent years, Coulier has focused on AwearMarket, a platform he founded to replace toxic household products with safer alternatives. “AwearMarket was born from me being frustrated with all the toxicity that was in my life,” Coulier shared. With over 7,000 screened products, the organization provides a vetted selection to make healthy living more accessible for others.
A Look Back and Forward
Until recently, Coulier hosted the “Full House Rewind” podcast, revisiting every episode of the iconic series. However, the show faced challenges, including a viewership decline after a break during the SAG strike. Despite efforts to boost interest, they struggled to regain their audience. In contrast, Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber’s competing podcast, “How Rude, Tanneritos!,” continues to thrive, reflecting the enduring affection for the series.
Fans still hold out hope for a reunion of the “Full House” family in a potential continuation of the “Fuller House” series. Candace Cameron expressed her enthusiasm for the possibility, stating, “Fuller House was one of the best experiences of my life.” The love and connection among the cast remain as strong as ever, much like Coulier’s bond with Stamos through his health journey.
