John Oliver Takes on a Hilarious Role in 'Days of Our Lives'

John Oliver is set to spice up summer television with a playful three-episode guest stint on the beloved soap opera Days of Our Lives. The Last Week Tonight host will transform into the quirky chief water inspector, Devlin St. John, donning an outrageous wig that is bound to turn heads.

Devlin St. John’s Dramatic Debut

Oliver’s first appearance as Devlin St. John will air on August 11, followed by additional episodes on Wednesday and Friday. This new role comes hot on the heels of his recent three-episode appearance on General Hospital, where he played Z, the enigmatic head of a shadowy spy agency. Fans are eagerly anticipating how Oliver will bring his unique comedic flair to the iconic town of Salem.

Intriguing Interactions and Hilarious Lines

Preview clips reveal Oliver’s character engaging in spirited exchanges with the town’s mayor, Paulina Price, portrayed by sitcom legend Jackée Harry. There are also hints of a playful romantic tension between Devlin and Rita Lesley, played by Maggie Carney. Oliver does not shy away from delivering outrageous lines, such as, “Please don’t spit on my leg and tell me that it’s a car wash,” and even slapping fellow actor Dan Feuerriegel, showcasing his slapstick comedy style.

Custom Wig and Comedy Requests

Slapstick humor, a ridiculous character name, and, of course, a flamboyant wig were among Oliver’s specific requests for his soap opera appearance. Notably, he brought the wig himself, which underwent minimal tweaking by the Days of Our Lives hair and makeup team before filming commenced.

Oliver’s Soap Opera Aspirations

The comedian’s foray into soap operas traces back to a segment on Last Week Tonight in March, where he expressed his desire to make guest appearances on soap operas. This aspiration was inspired by the numerous celebrities who have made surprise visits to soap shows, including the likes of Katy Perry, Snoop Dogg, and Stephen A. Smith.
