Bestselling author Isabel Allende recently announced that the adaptation of her iconic novel, The House of the Spirits, will debut on Prime Video. During a press conference in Santiago, Chile, Allende shared an exclusive clip, offering fans a first look at the series.
A Stellar Cast Brings Characters to Life
The newly revealed images from the series showcase a talented cast. Aline Kuppenheim portrays Nivea del Valle, while Fernanda Urrejola takes on the role of Blanca Trueba. Rochi Hernández stars as Alba, adding depth to the generational saga. Also joining the cast are Alfonso Herrera as Esteban Trueba and Nicole Wallace portraying Clara del Valle at different life stages, alongside Dolores Fonzi, known for her directorial work on “Belen.”
Insights From the Creators and Cast
Allende participated in a panel discussion with showrunners Francisca Alegría, Urrejola, and Andrés Wood, where they delved into the challenges and joys of adapting the beloved novel into a series. With over 70 million copies sold worldwide, The House of the Spirits has left a significant mark on literature, previously being adapted into a 1993 film. The new series aims for authenticity, focusing on quality performances over star-studded casting, as Allende noted in a 2021 interview.
Production Powerhouses Behind the Series
The adaptation is being developed by FilmNation, known for its success with films like “Anora” and “Conclave,” in collaboration with the Larrain brothers’ production company Fabula. The project is backed by the Chilean Oscar-winning producers of “The Eternal Memory” and “A Fantastic Woman.” Allende herself, along with Eva Longoria and Courtney Saladino, serves as an executive producer, ensuring the story’s essence is preserved.
Available in over 240 countries and territories, The House of the Spirits is set to join Prime Video’s expanding catalogue of Latin American Amazon Originals. This adaptation not only continues the legacy of Allende’s work but also shines a light on the rich, cultural storytelling from the region.
