Known globally for his dynamic performances in the “Raid” series, Uwais is now taking the lead in “Warrior,” an Indonesian action film that promises intense action and a gripping storyline. This venture not only marks a homecoming for Uwais but also showcases the potential of Indonesian cinema on the international stage.

In “Warrior,” Uwais portrays a former elite Silat practitioner who, after serving time in prison, seeks a peaceful life free from violence. His plans are thwarted when a Malaysian crime syndicate invades his neighborhood, threatening his community and loved ones. Forced to confront his past, he becomes the sole defender of his people, escalating a local conflict into a full-scale battle across the vibrant streets of Jakarta.
Behind the Camera
The film marks the directorial debut of John Radel ACS, a seasoned cinematographer and producer known for his work on productions like Dev Patel’s “Monkey Man” and Michael Mann’s “Blackhat.” Radel’s collaboration with Uwais spans over four films, establishing a well-honed partnership that promises to deliver on the high expectations set by “Warrior.” Beyond “Warrior,” Radel is involved in “Warpath,” another action feature pairing Uwais with Scott Adkins.
Production Powerhouse
On the production front, the film is backed by a team of experienced industry players. Delon Tio, a veteran of Indonesian cinema, partners with Erika North and Nick North of Yeti Entertainment, a firm with deep ties in international film sectors. Complementing the team is Mike Leeder, known for his action prowess with Red Packet Media. The film is poised for international sales through K-Movie Entertainment, while Uwais himself takes on an executive producer role through Uwais Pictures, in collaboration with Ryan Susanto.

“Warrior” emerges as the inaugural project from a joint venture between Asia Media Alliance Group and Nation Pictures. This collaboration aims to spotlight Southeast Asian genre films on a global platform, with a lineup of action and horror titles on the horizon. The production, scheduled to commence this summer entirely in Indonesia, will leverage local talent and settings to enrich the film’s authenticity.
