Haley Bishop, known for her standout performance in AMC Shudder’s “Host,” is set to headline the action-horror film “For the Good of the Herd.” This exciting project, helmed by Toronto’s Clever Creature Inc., is making waves as it approaches the American Film Market (AFM). This article delves into the film’s unique appeal, its production details, and the creative vision behind it, with insights from director Mark Pritchard and the leading team.
Production and Creative Team
“For the Good of the Herd” is written and directed by Mark Pritchard, with principal photography scheduled to start in the U.K. in November. Clever Creature’s managing partner Michaelangelo Masangkay will produce the film, teaming up with Screen Anthology’s Michael Galvan and Sebastien Bazile. Notably, Galvan collaborates with Tim Willrich of Limbo Pictures, ensuring a strong production foundation.
The Story and Themes
Blending elements of survivalist horror and psychological thriller, the film explores the extent to which people will go to survive societal collapse. Haley Bishop stars as Zoe, a character haunted by her past who must embrace darker instincts for survival. As Mark Pritchard explains, the narrative examines complex belief systems and how these influence human behavior, posing questions about power and trust.
“This story examines the impact of malign belief structures, the sheer will it takes to deny them, and the lengths a human can go to in serving a conceit of truth,” Pritchard noted. “Humans are the most terrifying monsters, and this film interrogates predatory forces and power dynamics.”
Haley Bishop’s Role and Enthusiasm
Haley Bishop expressed her excitement for the project, highlighting her character’s struggle with guilt and the necessity of embracing darker impulses. “For The Good Of The Herd really stood out to me as a bold and exhilarating take on horror,” she stated. “Being the badass final girl, covered in blood and kicking ass, is a dream role. It’s a story with paranoia and bone-crunching gore that I think audiences will love.”
Clever Creature’s Vision
Clever Creature is committed to pushing creative boundaries with genre-driven filmmaking. Michaelangelo Masangkay emphasized the company’s dedication to innovative storytelling. “This project represents the kind of bold filmmaking that Clever Creature champions—creative and commercially innovative,” he remarked. “With Haley Bishop leading, we are thrilled to bring this to a global audience.”
Backing the production are executive producers Michael Tomczyk, Kevin Sand, Giselle Gastell, Bianca Consuji, and Donovan Rodriques. Clever Creature is on a mission to expand its roster of international genre projects, having recently announced remakes of Roger Corman’s cult classics, thus bridging creative talent across continents.
