Beyond Fest is set to honor the visionary career of Guillermo del Toro with a 12-film retrospective titled “Está Vivo: The Gods and Monsters of Guillermo del Toro.” This celebration will take place from September 23 to October 8 at the iconic Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, California. The event shines a spotlight on del Toro’s influential work in cinema, making it a must-attend for fans and cinephiles.

A Tribute to a Master Storyteller

In collaboration with the American Cinematheque, the retrospective will showcase new restorations, special director’s cuts, and rare 35mm screenings. Spanning from del Toro’s debut “Cronos” to his latest creation “Nightmare Alley: Vision in Darkness and Light,” this series highlights the breadth and depth of his cinematic legacy.

Personal Insights from Guillermo del Toro

The celebrated filmmaker himself will participate in four specially curated segments, sharing insights and anecdotes from his storied career. These discussions will explore themes central to his storytelling, such as monsters, humanity, and imagination, offering audiences a unique glimpse into del Toro’s creative world ahead of his new film, “Frankenstein.”

Evrim Ersoy, head of programming at Beyond Fest, expressed the impact of del Toro’s work: “Guillermo del Toro’s films have inspired generations of filmmakers and audiences alike in a way unlike any other artist we’ve experienced.”

A Diverse Film Line-Up

The retrospective kicks off with a compelling triple bill titled “In The Mood For Love,” featuring “The Shape of Water” and a fresh version of “Nightmare Alley: Vision in Darkness and Light” personally supervised by del Toro. Subsequent screenings will include classics like “Hellboy,” “Hellboy II: The Golden Army,” and “Blade II.”

Del Toro’s foundational works, such as the 4K restored “Cronos” and “The Devil’s Backbone,” will be screened along with a director’s cut of “Mimic.” Additionally, “Pan’s Labyrinth” will be highlighted in a special programming block including a pre-screening Q&A session, enriching the experience for attendees.
