Chelsea Handler slams RFK Jr. and Cheryl Hines over mansion scandal

Chelsea Handler has recently voiced her frustrations regarding Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and his wife, actress Cheryl Hines, over a mansion she purchased from them for $5.9 million. The comedian describes the Brentwood property as a “toxic” dump that has thus far prevented her from moving in. Handler’s candid remarks aired during a March 5 episode of her podcast, Dear Chelsea, shedding light on the disturbing details surrounding this expensive real estate transaction.

Handler’s Experience with the Toxic Mansion

During her podcast, Handler shared her dissatisfaction, stating, “I bought RFK Jr.’s house in Los Angeles five years ago. I still have not lived in this house, that’s how f–ed up this house was.” She expressed her disbelief that RFK Jr. is involved in public health when he appeared neglectful regarding his own home’s infrastructure.

The mansion — a sprawling 5-bedroom, 5,474-square-foot residence on Mandeville Canyon Road — was sold in October 2021 for approximately $5.85 million. Built in 1937, the home is set on nearly half an acre and includes six bathrooms, but Handler’s experience suggests that appearances can be deceiving.

Unexpected Discoveries During Inspections

Handler detailed how the purchase was conducted through trusts, concealing both the buyer and seller’s identities until she started inspections. Her troubles began as contractors revealed serious issues with the property. “When they opened up the house, they were like, ‘This house is the most toxic environment,’” she recounted. Experts warned Handler that she wouldn’t be able to reside in the house for years, insisting, “I’m not exaggerating any of this.”

Among the surprises during the final stretch of inspections was a storage structure that was deemed illegal. “Now we have to remove his illegal bull—t from my property,” she remarked, referring to the RFK Jr.-era modifications that have become a burden.

A Call for Accountability

Interestingly, during this tumultuous transition, Hines left Handler a cordial note offering assistance post-sale, stating, “‘Let us know if there’s anything we can do for you, Chelsea.’” Handler humorously responded, “I’m like, yeah, how about a f–ing foundation.” Despite her outward humor about the situation, it’s evident that the incident has left her exasperated.

Handler admitted that this is not her first experience with home-related blunders. Previously, she altered her Bel Air home into a two-bedroom layout to keep family visits short, a decision that ultimately decreased its value. “It definitely made the house less valuable,” she confessed, adding that she later had to reverse those changes at additional expense.

From Bel Air to Brentwood

Having sold her Bel Air oasis for $10.3 million in 2021, Handler’s transition to the Brentwood property has become legendary among her fans, thanks in part to the convoluted saga linked to the mansion. As her adventures in real estate unravel, Handler continues to share her experiences, serving both as entertainment and cautionary tales for those navigating the complexities of home buying.

As of now, Handler has yet to receive a comment from RFK Jr., leaving the story open-ended and ripe for further developments.
