BAFTA Delays First TV, Film, and Game Awards to 2026

BAFTA North America has announced a change in plans for its highly anticipated inaugural awards event, initially set for this fall. The BAFTA Honours ceremony, which aims to celebrate achievements in TV, film, and video games, has been rescheduled to fall 2026. This decision reflects the organization’s strategic move to ensure a grand debut, aligning with its mission to enhance its presence in the United States and equally recognize the gaming industry alongside film and television.

Original Plans Face Delay

The inaugural BAFTA Honours, which were to identify a single outstanding honoree in each of the TV, film, and video game categories, were first announced by Variety in August. The ceremony was originally scheduled for Sunday, November 2. However, recent confirmation by BAFTA North America indicates a one-year delay. In a statement to Variety, the organization expressed anticipation for launching the event in Los Angeles and presenting the iconic BAFTA mask to distinguished individuals across these creative industries.

Commitment to the Gaming Industry

While specific reasons for postponing the inaugural awards were not disclosed, it is evident that BAFTA North America is committed to elevating the status of the gaming industry to be on par with film and TV. This commitment is part of its broader strategy to expand its footprint within the U.S. Recently, the organization has increased its involvement with the gaming community, marked by participation in prominent events like Games for Change in New York and Unreal Fest in Orlando. Further cementing its dedication, a new BAFTA Games North America Committee has been established.

Looking Ahead: Upcoming BAFTA Events

The rescheduling of the BAFTA Honours to fall 2026 accompanies a lineup of other notable BAFTA events. These include the BAFTA Tea Party in Los Angeles on January 10, 2026, the EE BAFTA Film Awards in London on February 22, 2026, and the BAFTA Games Awards on April 17, 2026, also in London. Additionally, the BAFTA Student Awards, BAFTA TV Tea Party, and BAFTA New York Tea Party are scheduled for various times in 2026, leading up to the rescheduled BAFTA Honours in Los Angeles.

BAFTA North America’s delay of its inaugural awards reflects careful planning aimed at making a significant impact when the event finally takes place. With a firm commitment to advance recognition across TV, film, and especially video games, the organization continues to pave the way for greater industry acknowledgment and celebration.
