The highly anticipated return of the International Film Festival of India’s (IFFI) inflatable cinema will feature an impressive showcase, with Shah Rukh Khan classics taking center stage. This innovative initiative is set to delight audiences from November 20-28 in Goa, celebrating both iconic and contemporary films. As inflatable cinemas make a comeback, fans can enjoy diverse programming that highlights the dynamic nature of Indian cinema.
Shah Rukh Khan Classics Highlight Inflatable Cinema
For the first time, three beloved Shah Rukh Khan films—“Chak De! India,” “Darr,” and “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge”—will be presented in the unique format of inflatable cinema during the 56th IFFI. These screenings are part of a collaboration between the National Film Development Corporation and the Entertainment Society of Goa, joining forces with PictureTime Digiplex. This initiative aims to bring cinematic gems to a broader audience, enhancing the festival experience.
A Diverse and Inspiring Slate
The festival’s lineup is thoughtfully categorized into Inspirational Films, Indian Panorama Classics, Nostalgia, and Children’s Cinema. Among the contemporary offerings are Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s “12th Fail,” the Malayalam hit “Manjummel Boys,” Rajkummar Rao’s “Srikanth,” Rani Mukerji’s “Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway,” and Sooraj Barjatya’s “Uunchai.” These selections are expected to captivate diverse audiences, showcasing Indian cinema’s creativity and innovation.
Celebrating Cinema from All Eras
Classic films are a significant part of the programming, with works like Satyajit Ray’s “Shatranj Ke Khilari,” Mira Nair’s “Salaam Bombay!,” and Yash Chopra’s “Chandni” lighting up the screens. These films join Anup Singh’s “Qissa” and Vijay Anand’s “Teesri Manzil,” ensuring that cinema enthusiasts can revisit these masterpieces in an engaging format.
Engaging Young Audiences
Recognizing the importance of nurturing young cinephiles, the festival includes a daily selection of children’s films such as “Kaphal: Wild Berries,” “Gattu,” and “Naal 2.” These films aim to inspire and entertain younger audiences, fostering an early appreciation for the rich storytelling traditions of Indian cinema.
Expanding the Festival’s Reach
PictureTime’s inflatable theatre at Kala Academy will serve as a key venue, accommodating over 1,000 visitors daily. Additional open-air screenings throughout North and South Goa aim to draw 300-400 viewers per site, making the festival accessible to a wider community. “This year’s programming — ranging from Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic classics to acclaimed contemporary titles — reflects the diversity and cultural richness of Indian cinema,” said Sushil Chaudhary, founder and CEO of PictureTime Digiplex. His sentiments highlight the festival’s commitment to inclusivity and cultural exploration.
Since its association with IFFI in 2017, PictureTime has been instrumental in bringing cinema closer to the people, ensuring that the grandeur of filmmaking is accessible to all spectators, old and new.
