Rose Byrne Celebrates Golden Globe Amid Bobby Cannavale's Reptile Adventure

Rose Byrne captured her first Golden Globe, delighting audiences with her win for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical. Her compelling role as a mother teetering on the edge in the psychological film “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You” earned her this accolade. However, the night came with an unexpected twist as she revealed why her husband, Bobby Cannavale, was absent — attending a reptile expo instead. This headline-grabbing tidbit added a humorous touch to an unforgettable evening.

Byrne’s Unanticipated Victory

Sunday’s Golden Globe ceremony took a surprising turn when Rose Byrne was announced as the winner for her role in “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.” Demonstrating genuine shock, she humorously acknowledged the incongruity of her dark film being categorized as a comedy. “Of course I didn’t prepare anything,” Byrne jokingly admitted. “I didn’t sing in this movie. This is such a shock!”

During her speech, Byrne thanked the film’s writer-director Mary Bronstein, highlighting the project’s swift production. “She wrote this unbelievable screenplay and wanted me to do it,” Byrne said, noting, “We shot this movie in 25 days for, like, $8.50. This is a tiny film, so this is a huge thing to be up here.”

A Night to Remember

Sharing the spotlight with her was Byrne’s brother, serving as her date. She explained her husband’s absence with characteristic humor: “I want to thank my husband, who couldn’t be here because we are getting a bearded dragon and he went to a reptile expo in New Jersey.”

Byrne’s win was particularly significant as she surpassed notable contenders such as Cynthia Erivo, Kate Hudson, and Emma Stone. Known for her comedic roles in films like “Bridesmaids” and “Neighbors,” Byrne has also been recognized for her dramatic work, including past Golden Globe nominations for “Damages.”

A Film of Distinction

Since its Sundance premiere, “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You” has been a topic of awards buzz. The film weaves a unique narrative about a woman named Linda navigating psychological challenges while her husband is away and her daughter battles mysterious illness. The talented cast includes Conan O’Brien, Danielle Macdonald, and Christian Slater, contributing to its critical acclaim.

Rose Byrne’s achievement at the Golden Globes underscores her versatility and marks a milestone in her career, demonstrating her ability to captivate audiences across genres.
