Prince William Reminisces on First Home With Kate Middleton
During a recent engagement in Wales, Prince William nostalgically reflected on the couple’s first home together with Kate Middleton, highlighting the poignant memories associated with their early days. As the royal family settles into a new chapter of life, this reminiscence offers a heartfelt glimpse into their shared history and experiences.

A Home in Wales
On December 1, at the Wales Investment Summit in Newport, Prince William shared his emotions about the couple’s initial residence. “Wales was the first place Catherine and I made our home together,” he remarked. “When you make a home in Wales, you join a family of three million people, and the sense of warmth and belonging is what makes Wales unlike anywhere else.”
This reflection referenced the farmhouse located on the island of Anglesey, where the couple lived from 2010 to 2013. At that time, Prince William was serving as a search-and-rescue helicopter pilot at RAF Valley, and it was here that Kate undertook her first royal engagement prior to their 2011 wedding.
Foundational Memories
Those years in Anglesey were significant for the couple, as they welcomed their first child, Prince George of Wales, into that home. It was a time that involved balancing the challenges of parenthood, royal responsibilities, and military life as new parents. Both William and Kate have fondly recounted how special that setting was, even as it posed its unique challenges.
In January 2020, Kate opened up about her experiences during those isolated days. While visiting a children’s center in Wales, she said, “I was chatting to some of the moms, I had just had George, and William was still working with search and rescue, so we came up here when George was a tiny, tiny little baby, in the middle of Anglesey.”
She continued by expressing the difficulties she faced at the time: “It was so isolated, so cut off, I didn’t have my family around me, he was doing night shifts, so if only I’d had a center like this at a certain time.”
Transition to Forest Lodge
Just weeks after these nostalgic reflections, the royal family made a significant move to Forest Lodge, a stunning eight-bedroom Georgian mansion nestled in Windsor Great Park. This new residence is seen as an upgrade from their previous home at Adelaide Cottage and has even been dubbed their ‘forever home.’
Forest Lodge not only provides ample space and privacy for Prince William, Kate, and their three children—George, Princess Charlotte of Wales, and Prince Louis of Wales—but it also marks a stark contrast to their humble beginnings in Anglesey. Its historic charm and expansive grounds symbolize a new milestone for the family.
As Prince William’s recent remembrance highlights, true emotional value in a home transcends its physical attributes; it resides in the cherished memories created within its walls. The couple may have moved on from their first residence, but the lessons and love nurtured there remain a significant part of their journey.
