Netflix Secures Mitch Albom's 'Twice' with Paul Weitz Directing

In a thrilling development, Netflix has secured the rights to adapt Mitch Albom’s latest novel, “Twice,” marking another high-profile acquisition for the streaming giant. This adaptation will be helmed by acclaimed director Paul Weitz, known for his work on the Kevin Hart film “Fatherhood.” The collaboration promises to bring Albom’s unique storytelling to a wider audience, blending magic and life’s deepest questions into a cinematic experience.

A New Chapter in Storytelling

Netflix’s acquisition of “Twice” comes after a competitive bidding war, demonstrating the high interest in Mitch Albom’s newest work. The novel, set to be published on October 7 by Harper, explores the concept of second chances through the life of protagonist Alfie Logan, who discovers he can relive moments to reshape his path. This power, however, comes with significant consequences, especially when it comes to matters of the heart.

A Cinematic Vision

Director Paul Weitz is set to adapt and direct “Twice,” bringing his filmmaking expertise to the project. Weitz, along with Andrew Miano through their company Depth of Field, will produce the film. Weitz’s previous works, such as “Fatherhood” and “About a Boy,” showcase his ability to blend drama and comedy, making him an ideal choice to capture the essence of Albom’s whimsical yet profound narrative.

Unfolding the Story of “Twice”

The novel “Twice” follows Alfie as he navigates love and life with his newfound ability. Initially using his power for personal gain, Alfie later finds love with Gianna, only to face the harsh reality that once a love is undone, it cannot be rekindled. The story unfolds with Alfie’s arrest for allegedly cheating at a casino, leading to a detective’s investigation that reveals Alfie’s incredible journey and its unforeseen conclusion.

Mitch Albom’s Legacy on Screen

Albom’s works have a successful history of adaptations. His novels like “Tuesdays With Morrie” and “Five People You Meet in Heaven” have been turned into television hits, each resonating with audiences globally. With 42 million copies sold worldwide, his stories continue to captivate and inspire, promising that the adaptation of “Twice” will be no exception.

Representatives from CAA back both Albom and Weitz, with additional representation for Albom from the David Black Agency and attorney Eric Brown, while Weitz also collaborates with Untitled Entertainment. This adaptation of “Twice” is eagerly anticipated, poised to deliver another memorable narrative from the world of Mitch Albom.
