Melania's Propaganda Falls Short of Expectations

Melania Trump has been a subject of intrigue and speculation, captivating media and public attention alike. However, the film “Melania: Twenty Days to History” attempts to present her as a cinematic icon but fails to hit the mark. This article explores why the film, despite its resources and access, doesn’t succeed as effective propaganda. Instead, it struggles to shed light on the enigmatic figure at its center, losing itself in style over substance.

The Illusion of Grandeur

The film begins with a sweeping drone shot over the Atlantic Ocean, capturing the opulence of Mar-a-Lago, set to the Rolling Stones‘ “Gimme Shelter.” Despite its grandiose opening reminiscent of a summer blockbuster, the film falls flat in creating any meaningful narrative about Melania Trump. The attempt to craft a movie star image for her seems forced and fails to delve into her complexities.

An Opportunity Missed

Director Brett Ratner had unparalleled access and a hefty budget to explore the life of Melania Trump. Yet, the film squanders these opportunities, offering superficial insights instead of probing deeper. In moments meant for intimate revelation, the film opts for trivial interactions, leaving the audience with little understanding of its main subject.

Style Over Substance

Despite employing renowned cinematographers, the film is akin to a high-budget book report with little payoff. The visual prowess is apparent, yet it doesn’t compensate for the lack of engaging content. Even when tackling potentially significant themes like Melania’s experience as an immigrant, the film skirts any depth or introspection, leaving much to be desired.

A Divided Audience

Whether there is a public appetite for such a film remains uncertain. Released amid turbulent times, its polished images starkly contrast with real-world events, potentially alienating audiences. Amazon’s extensive rollout did little to fill seats, as early screenings saw sparse attendance, primarily journalists, questioning the film’s impact and appeal.

In highlighting Melania Trump, the film misses an opportunity to provide genuine insight, presenting instead an unsatisfying facade of glamour without substance.
