Family Thriller 'Bloodsuckers' Set to Thrill from ‘Midsommar’ Producer

Anticipation is building as Charades, a Paris-based sales company known for its eclectic film selection, champions the new family thriller “Bloodsuckers.” Developed by the same team behind the chilling classic “Midsommar,” this latest venture promises an exhilarating blend of psychological intrigue and dark humor. Directed by Elin Grönblom, “Bloodsuckers” is set to captivate audiences with its unique narrative and striking themes.

Unveiling ‘Bloodsuckers’ at Göteborg Film Festival

Currently in post-production, “Bloodsuckers” has caught attention ahead of its official unveiling at Göteborg Film Festival’s Works in Progress. This platform will offer an exclusive preview before Charades presents a promotional reel to buyers at the European Film Market (EFM). This strategic move is aimed at drumming up international interest for Grönblom’s sophomore feature.

A Compelling Storyline

The film follows Johanna, a 38-year-old embarking on a much-needed family vacation. However, their trip into the deep Scandinavian woods takes an eerie turn as Johanna becomes entranced by a mysterious bog. Relentless mosquito bites awaken a primal instinct within her, pushing this mother to extremes in her quest for tranquility. This gripping synopsis underscores the film’s intriguing mix of suspense and psychological exploration.

The Creative Minds Behind the Thriller

Directed by promising Scandinavian filmmaker Elin Grönblom, whose credentials include an MFA from The New York Film Academy, “Bloodsuckers” continues her exploration of unique narrative forms following her debut feature “Ella and Friends.” Her innovative storytelling has been further honed through well-received short films like “My Dad’s an Alien!” and “Goldfish Love.”

The film is produced by Mylla Films, led by industry veterans Patrik Andersson and Jakob Abrahamsson. Their past contributions to acclaimed projects like “Midsommar” reflect their expertise in crafting compelling cinema experiences. Andersson and Abrahamsson express confidence in Charades, stating, “Their love for bold, director-driven cinema makes it the perfect home for the film.”

A Thrilling Blend of Humor and Social Critique

Offering a unique blend of psychological tension, dark comedy, and a nuanced family portrait, “Bloodsuckers” is poised to resonate with international audiences. Charades co-founder Carole Baraton remarked on the film’s appeal, highlighting its blend of dark humor and social critique typical of Scandinavian cinema. “We can’t wait to bring Elin’s radical yet playful voice to audiences,” Baraton added.

As “Bloodsuckers” joins the ranks of Mylla Films’ compelling projects, including upcoming works by Michael Marcimain and Måns Mårlind, the backing from notable entities like the Swedish Film Institute and Nordisk Film & TV Fond underscores its potential impact.

Supported by a coalition of partners and initiatives, “Bloodsuckers” represents a fascinating fusion of creativity and ambition, set to captivate and thrill viewers worldwide.
