Bruce Springsteen Condemns Censorship at New York Film Festival

In a captivating moment at the New York Film Festival, Bruce Springsteen took the stage for an unexpected performance after the premiere of “Deliver Me From Nowhere,” a new biopic focusing on his iconic “Nebraska” album. This surprise appearance highlighted Springsteen’s enduring influence and passion for America’s ideals, emphasizing that the country should not be seen as a land of government censorship or hatred.

The film, which releases on October 24 through 20th Century Studios, was warmly received in Manhattan. Springsteen joined a talented cast, including Jeremy Allen White, who portrays the legendary musician, along with Jeremy Strong, Stephen Graham, Odessa Young, and Gaby Hoffman, during the presentation at Alice Tully Hall.

Springsteen shared his admiration for White’s portrayal, humorously noting the actor was “a much better-looking version of me.” He also quipped about his longtime manager Jon Landau, jokingly appreciating Strong for playing a “much, much better-looking version of Jon.”

The rock icon paid tribute to his late parents, Douglas “Dutch” Springsteen and Adele Springsteen, with their roles embodied by Graham and Hoffman. Reflecting on their portrayal, he remarked, “They’re all gone now, so it’s nice to have this piece of film.”

Acknowledging societal challenges, Springsteen commented, “These days we have daily events reminding us of the fact that we’re living through these particularly dangerous times. I spent my life on the road, moving around the world as kind of a musical ambassador for America … trying to measure the distance between American reality, where we’ve often fallen short of our ideals.”

Springsteen emphasized his persistent hope for the nation, stating, “But for a lot of folks out there, she continues to be a land of hope and dreams, not of fear or divisiveness or government censorship or hatred.”
