Be Afraid Media Expands with Dread Central Acquisition

Be Afraid Media has made waves in the horror industry by launching with a strategic acquisition of Dread Central, a prominent digital horror news outlet. As Dread Central approaches its two-decade mark, this exciting development promises to blend tradition with innovation, redefining digital horror journalism’s future. The move aims to expand Dread Central’s reach while maintaining the unique voice that horror enthusiasts cherish.

Preserving a Legacy

Dread Central, a staple in horror journalism since 2006, has long been a haven for fans of horror films, TV shows, and the wider fandom. The acquisition by Be Afraid Media marks a new chapter, aligning with Dread Central’s milestone 20th anniversary. The synergy between these entities promises to uphold a legacy of quality content that caters to an ever-growing audience.

A New Beginning Under Seasoned Leadership

Guided by Brad Miska, renowned for his work with Bloody Disgusting and the “V/H/S” franchise, Be Afraid Media is set to enhance Dread Central’s offerings. Teaming up with his siblings, Heather and Peter Luttrell, who bring extensive experience in digital media and advertising, the leadership trio is poised to elevate the digital horror news outlet to new heights.

“Dread Central has been a trusted voice in horror for nearly two decades,” stated Miska. “Our goal is to expand its reach and accessibility while preserving the integrity and independence that its audience values.” This commitment resonates strongly with the community and promises continued innovation alongside time-honored traditions.

Envisioning the Future

The acquisition also includes DreadTV, a horror film FAST channel, alongside a multi-year streaming distribution deal with Epic Pictures. Heather Luttrell, CEO of Be Afraid, highlighted their vision: “Horror has always thrived on independence and authenticity. We’re building a platform that honors the genre’s legacy, while creating a sustainable future that puts fans and creators first.”

As expressed by Jon Condit, co-founder of Dread Central, “There is no team better suited to take the helm of Dread Central. They understand the genre, they respect the audience, and they have the experience to guide Dread into its next era.” This endorsement reflects optimism and trust in the new leadership steering the iconic outlet.

Broader Implications

Legal and advisory support played a crucial role in the acquisition process. Epic Pictures received legal counsel from Michael Best & Friedrich LLP, while Be Afraid Media was represented by Pierce Atwood LLP. M&A advisory for the acquisition was provided by Guud LLC.

The establishment of Be Afraid Media, with its strategic acquisition of Dread Central, marks a significant moment in horror media—blending tradition with fresh perspectives to captivate horror enthusiasts worldwide.
