Rosario Dawson has revealed that she filmed a scene as Claire Temple for the upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but her appearance ultimately didn’t make the final cut. During a recent appearance at GalaxyCon in Raleigh, North Carolina, she humorously referred to herself as “a reject of Spider-Man.”
Claire Temple’s Journey in the MCU
Dawson’s character, Claire Temple, is a nurse who tends to injured superheroes. She first appeared in Netflix‘s Daredevil in 2015 and has since reprised her role in other Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) series, including Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders.
Behind the Scenes and Personal Connections
While discussing her experience at GalaxyCon, Dawson mentioned, “I even shot a scene in the new Spider-Man movie, but I got cut out.” She shared a lighthearted exchange with her mother, who lamented that she couldn’t post behind-the-scenes pictures, to which Dawson replied, “Right mom, me being cut out of the movie that has the largest viewership of a trailer ever, the issue is you can’t post the BTS photos.”
Dawson expressed a deep personal connection to Spider-Man, stating that her uncle is a comic book artist and that Spider-Man was the first character he learned to draw. “There’s a frame in one of the new comics that has a young Spider-Man talking to Daredevil, and they made it so that the young Spider-Man goes to PS19 in the Lower East Side, which is where I went to elementary school,” she shared. “So when I tell you my post was already ready with my BTS, with my grandson wearing all his Spider-Man stuff … Then I got the email that was like, ‘Yeah, nah.’”
Hope for the Future
Although she referred to herself as “a reject of Spider-Man,” Dawson remains hopeful for future opportunities to reprise her role. “Because everybody’s in it, it still means that my character is somewhere in that same universe, and I really love that,” she said. “So, I hope I get to be Claire again.”
Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s Box Office Success
Spider-Man: Brand New Day, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and featuring Tom Holland as the titular character, also stars Sadie Sink, Zendaya, and Jon Bernthal. The film is set to achieve a significant milestone, hitting the $700 million mark at the domestic box office today. According to Deadline, it will become the fourth MCU film to cross $700 million in the U.S., joining the ranks of Avengers: Endgame ($858.3M), Spider-Man: No Way Home ($814.8M), and Black Panther ($700.4M).
