Kensington Palace Declines Patronage for Prince Louis
Kensington Palace has recently made the decision to decline an honorary patronage offer for Prince Louis, the youngest son of Prince William and Kate Middleton. The offer came from the World Conker Championships, inspired by Prince Louis’s newfound appreciation for conkers, commonly known as horse chestnuts. While the request delighted the organizers, it appears that the royal family has chosen to prioritize Prince Louis’s education, leading to the decline of the patronage.
World Conker Championships Extends Invitation
The World Conker Championships expressed their excitement upon learning of Prince Louis’s enthusiasm for conkers. A representative shared with the Telegraph (via E! News) that they were “so heartened to hear that Prince Louis is such a conkers fan.” They went on to state, “He would be the perfect honorary patron for our organization,” reflecting their eagerness to welcome the young prince into their fold.
Furthermore, the representative noted, “We would be delighted were his parents to accept our offer,” emphasizing the organization’s hope to engage with the royal family. Despite the enthusiastic invitation, Kensington Palace has opted not to pursue the patronage at this time.
Education Takes Precedence
Kensington Palace issued a statement addressing the situation, noting that Prince Louis, at only seven years old, is not a working royal. The spokesperson conveyed, “We really appreciate the invite, but currently Prince Louis is ‘conker-trating’ on his studies.” The emphasis on education underscores the family’s commitment to ensuring that Prince Louis prioritizes his well-being and academic growth over royal duties.
Prince Louis and His Love for Conkers
While he may not have taken on the honorary patronage, Prince Louis has certainly captured the hearts of many with his fondness for collecting and playing with conkers. His mother, Kate Middleton, shared in September that they often find conkers in unexpected places around their home. “We keep finding conkers in cupboards, in his bed,” she revealed to The Express U.S. “Conkers everywhere.”
She further explained that Louis incorporates them into his playtime, stating he even places the conkers in his toy trucks. This aspect of his character shows that despite being part of the royal family, the young prince enjoys the simplicities of childhood and has a playful spirit.
A Heritage and a Cause
The World Conker Championships not only celebrates the game but also maintains a commitment to charitable contributions. According to the organization, “beyond even that, we also donate what we can to charities that aid the visually impaired.” They have contributed over £485,000 since 1965, highlighting the blend of fun and philanthropy that characterizes the event. While the offer of an honorary patronage for Prince Louis has been declined for now, there may still be an opportunity for him to engage with this meaningful tradition in the future once he’s older and more settled in his studies.
