Disney has officially announced the release date for its highly anticipated live-action adaptation of “Tangled,” set for March 31, 2028. This exciting news was unveiled during the Disney Entertainment Showcase at the D23 fan event, where exclusive footage of the remake was presented to attendees.
Cast and Characters
The live-action film stars Teagan Croft as Rapunzel and Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider, staying true to the beloved Brothers Grimm fairytale that inspired the original 2010 animated classic. The story follows Rapunzel, a princess with magical long hair, who is rescued by the charming fugitive thief, Flynn Rider, after years spent locked away in a tower.
Joining the cast, Kathryn Hahn portrays the treacherous Mother Gothel, while Diego Luna takes on a new role specifically created for this adaptation. The villainous Stabbington brothers will be played by Patrick and Hugo McPherson.
Expressing her enthusiasm for the role, Hahn shared from the D23 stage, “I love playing Mother Gothel. She’s stunning, hilarious, fab, kind, generous to a fault. Might be overprotective but that’s because she cares so much.”
Production Details
Directed by Michael Gracey, known for “The Greatest Showman,” the screenplay is a collaborative effort by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and Michael Montemayor. The film is produced by Kristin Burr, alongside executive producers Lucy Kitada and Jessica Virtue. Filming commenced in Spain in June 2026.
The remake’s development journey has seen its share of ups and downs; it was first reported in December 2024 but faced delays after the “Snow White” adaptation underperformed at the box office.
