Hugo Valenti's Stunning Comeback: He Finally Got It Right

In an exciting turn of events for Journey fans, the legendary rock band invited longtime tribute band singer Hugo Valenti to join them on stage once again during their tour in Japan. This follows a standout performance in Fukuoka, where Valenti sang “Faithfully.” His return engagement in Tokyo saw him not only reprise that fan favorite but also tackle the 1981 deep cut “Keep on Runnin’.

Valenti’s Thrilling Tokyo Performance

At the Tokyo show, Valenti’s performance was markedly improved, captivating the audience with his energy and passion. Many concertgoers observed that Valenti seemed a bit off during his first appearance in Fukuoka, possibly due to nerves or sound issues. However, he truly nailed it in Tokyo, delivering a flawless rendition that had the crowd erupting in applause.

Pineda’s Support and Band Dynamics

While Valenti’s performance garnered attention, it’s important to note that Journey’s regular frontman, Arnel Pineda, was still very much a part of the evening’s festivities. Pineda has been taking vocal breaks throughout the tour, sharing the spotlight with other capable band members, including keyboardists Jason Derlatka and Jonathan Cain, as well as drummer Deen Castronovo.

“We’ve got lots of singers in this band,” Journey guitarist Neal Schon told Rolling Stone earlier this year. “Deen is a tremendous singer. Todd is a tremendous singer. So [Pineda] doesn’t have to feel all that pressure. It’s a long show. If he wants to take a break, take a break, and one of those guys can step up to the mic and sing.”

Upcoming Tour Plans

As Journey concludes their brief Japanese leg of the farewell tour, the band is set to head to Honolulu on September 5 for the next North American series of shows. While there’s anticipation about whether Valenti will continue to perform with them, he is scheduled to appear with his own tribute band, Hugo – The Ultimate Journey Tribute, in Hoboken, New Jersey, on September 11.

Valenti also has another gig lined up in Patchogue, New York, on September 12, offering ample possibilities for him to guest with Journey during the remaining dates of their tour, which wraps up on November 28 in San Francisco. While fans have speculated about the possibility of Steve Perry’s appearance, it seems more likely that Valenti may make a return to the stage with Journey before the tour concludes.
