The Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, a beloved summer staple in Manchester, Tennessee, is set to take a break in 2027. Organizers announced the decision via social media, stating the festival will be on “a much-needed year off.”
“This wasn’t an easy decision, and not one we take lightly, but in our hearts, we know this break will only make Bonnaroo better,” the statement read. They expressed gratitude to the community for their continued support and encouraged fans to keep spreading positivity throughout the year.
Speculation about the festival’s future had been brewing among fans after organizers’ silence post-2026. Typically, Bonnaroo releases the following year’s dates shortly after the festival concludes; however, no dates for 2027 were announced by August. The festival is produced by C3 Presents, a subsidiary of Live Nation.
Earlier this month, Barry Courter, host of the Bonnaroo-focused The What podcast, attempted to clarify the situation. He reached out to festival officials, who indicated they were dealing with various issues, contributing to the lack of communication regarding the 2027 lineup.
Weather Challenges and Past Cancellations
Bonnaroo has faced numerous hurdles in recent years, primarily due to weather. The 2020 festival was scrapped entirely due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Although the 2021 event was rescheduled to September to mitigate health concerns, Hurricane Ida brought heavy rainfall that led to its cancellation. In 2025, while the festival began as planned, severe weather eventually caused the early termination of the event, resulting in disappointed fans having to pack up early.
Following last year’s cancellation, C3 Presents actively sought input from fans about the festival’s future direction. A communication sent to attendees contained survey questions regarding potential schedule changes, including whether attendees would consider a later date in the summer or a shift to late September or early October.
Resiliency and Future Planning
Despite challenges, Bonnaroo successfully returned in June 2026, investing millions in infrastructure improvements to enhance its resiliency against heavy rain. The lineup featured artists like Noah Kahan, Tedeschi Trucks Band, and Passion Pit. However, even this festival encountered weather disruptions, with a storm on the final day prompting evacuations and leading to the cancellation of certain performances.
In its official statement, Bonnaroo acknowledged the extensive efforts made to improve campgrounds and performance areas, highlighting upgrades such as improved drainage, new roadways, and extensive grass planting. These enhancements were pivotal in building The Farm’s resilience, but the festival organizers feel that a break is needed for recovery, particularly given the recent weather-related challenges.
